This lesson teaches students the STILT(s) acronym for poetry comparison, this could be used to teach comparison skills as well as teaching specific comparison points on these two poems from the Edexcel Relationship Collection. The lesson is challenging and aims to take students grades to the top levels. It includes engaging 'thunks', activities, guidance, exemplar paragraphs and guided questions and processes that could be applied to other pairs of poems. This resource is a fun way of getting students to create narratives that fit the remit of the Detective Fiction Genre.

With a distinct lack of exemplar papers available for the new Edexcel (9-1) GCSE English Language Exams I have constructed some papers and included mark schemes and indicative content as guidance. An in depth study of Act 3 of Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'. This is designed for GCSE teaching and includes a range of activities including: guided extract analysis, creative activities (Shakespearean Mannequin Challenge!), links to Transactional Writing on the Language specification, prompts to consider structure and structural devices, clozed activities and a range of extension tasks for more able students. This is 6-8 hours of teaching and includes everything students need to know for their exams in an accessible and fun format.

With few revision papers available for use this is another 19th Century Fiction Paper based on the novel 'Lost Hearts' by M R James. the resource includes a mark scheme and indicative content. This extract is a ghostly tale and a good one to use for analysis of tension/setting rather than characterisation. This is a very accessible paper and would be useful practise for both KS3 students doing a 'Supernatural' Unit of work or for KS4 lower ability to build confidence.

This lesson includes a range of tasks to engage students, including information on context and interpretations of the poem. The lesson includes extension activities, grading criteria and DIRT tasks. This is a really effective lesson to use when studying poetry at KS3 level to gently introduce students to the strengthened demands of the GCSE (9-1) syllabus.

This Literacy Programme is 3 of 3 for use with year 9s across an entire term and forms part of a newly written programme that builds on the strengthened demands of the KS2 literacy skills and the Year 7 and 8 Programmes also available on TES. This resource includes a PDF version of the programme plus an Adobe version that is editable so that the name of your school/behaviour policy can be incorporated into the documents. The powerpoint presentation is used to test the weekly skills gained by your students and allows you to track progress and build in additional intervention for areas of shortfall post completion. This is the first of several lessons on this new option on GCSE syllabuses. These lessons are differentiated and supported whilst also offering challenge and options to create revision resources in preparation for the final examinations. These lesson would work as well for KS3 groups who need a strengthened syllabus in preparation for the more robust (9-1) specifications as for KS4 students preparing for exams. This response is designed for use with the Cambridge International iGCSE (UK and US) and is equally suitable to use with a Key stage 3 or 4 group to build on their reading skills, analytical skills and response writing skills. This resource includes the PDF of the short story and offers a complete route through this narrative set in 1960s South Africa, as such this would be an ideal text to draw on for Black History Month (October) too. This KS3 Literacy Programme is 1 of 3 for use with year 7s across an entire term and forms part of a newly written programme that builds on the current demands of the KS2 literacy skills and makes them relevant for students as they head towards GCSE studies. The Study Guide is aptly designed to appeal to year 7 students and has one task per week focusing on a range of literacy skills: Spelling, Grammar and Reading. This lesson builds essay skills in line with the exam requirements, peer assessment, guidance on themes, language, structure and motifs alongside consideration of the concept of a ‘home’ which works well as SMSC evidence. The tasks here are varied, some slides are informative, but generally students will learn through completing activities and then secure and demonstrate learning through mini assessment/plenary activities.
